Jacksonville Jaguars HC Doug Pederson Comments on QB Trevor Lawrence’s Contract Situation

The Jacksonville Jaguars had some notable players in the spotlight this season. It started with LB Josh Allen. However, that situation has since been resolved, with the Jaguars giving Allen a considerable extension.

Now, all eyes are on QB Trevor Lawrence. He is entering his fourth season in the NFL and is in the second half of his rookie contract. Will he get an extension? Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson gives us a hint on where this is going.

Doug Pederson Wants Trevor Lawrence’s Contract Resolved Before 2024 Season

In 2024, Trevor Lawrence is set to make just under $12 million in base salary alone. On top of this, the Jaguars have already picked up Lawrence’s option for 2025. As a result, he is set to make around $25 million in 2025.

This still leaves Lawrence’s future beyond 2025 up in the air. However, all indications point to Lawrence receiving an extension to officially make him the Jaguars’ franchise quarterback. Head coach Doug Pederson would like to have Lawrence’s contract worked out sooner rather than later. In a perfect world, he would want it resolved before the 2024 NFL season begins according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team:

“I’ve just got to coach Trevor and coach football and hopefully it gets done — and it will,” Doug Pederson

Trevor Lawrence By the Numbers

Lawrence has certainly made a big impact on the Jaguars since he arrived in 2021. Many would argue that he is a major reason why Jacksonville is moving forward with extensive renovations on its current stadium. So, what has Lawrence done during his first three years in the NFL?

For starters, he has averaged nearly 4,000 passing yards and 20 touchdowns per season. Plus, he has improved his completion percentage from under 60% in his rookie year to around 66% in his last two seasons.

Jacksonville Jaguars Moving Forward

There seems to be little doubt that Lawrence is going to stay in Jacksonville for the long haul. This is despite the fact the team traded for QB Mac Jones in the offseason. However, considering Jones was benched for Bailey Zappe multiple times last season by the New England Patriots, Lawrence should not feel threatened with losing his starting job.

In 2024, the Jaguars hope to take a step forward rather than another step backward. Jacksonville missed the playoffs last season after winning the AFC South division in 2022.
